School Residencies and Assemblies

For years, Paul and Win have been developing and performing school residency programs in elementary schools. Now funding is available for these residencies in Missouri. Paul and Win are now on the roster of the statewide Arts Education Residency Roster which is administered by Kansas City Young Audiences. Now that the younger Graces have "flown the coop," Paul and Win are looking forward to passing their love of music on to the next generation!

These residencies are generally one week long for grades K-2 and two weeks for grades 3-6. They begin with a day of assemblies for the entire school, and are followed by sessions with the target groups (fourth graders, for example) on participatory subjects from "Old Time Rhythm Instruments" to "Songs From The Little House Books" to to "A History Of Missouri In Song" to "Old Time Social Dancing" and end with a Community Concert/Dance that includes performances by the Graces with the target groups followed by an old time country dance that is open to all members of the community, but especially to parents and students!

Anyone who is interested in more details on this residency (We have it written out in complete detail!) can contact Paul or Win Grace by e-mail, phone or fax. Missourians who are interested in possible funding for this residency can contact Julie Metzler, Program Specialist at Young Audiences, jmetzler@crn.org or 816-531-4022. You may also contact Ann Rothery at Springboard to Learning at 314-961-5858 or arothery@postnet.com. The deadline for grant application for the 2000-2001 school year is around April 30, 2000.

Missouri based not-for-profit organizations (especially arts organizations) and schools (both public and private) take heart!! The Missouri Arts Council has just announced a School Touring Mini Grant Program! Funding (up to $2000) is available for our performances and residencies in the schools for performances taking place between 7/1/99 and 6/30/2000. You must apply by the first Monday of each month for activities that are taking place at least 8 weeks from the time of the application. You may apply for up to 60% of our fee.

This is a simple application that doesn't require nearly as much lead time as other grants! You will have your decision on the money within 8 weeks of the time you apply. For information, contact Beverly Strohmeyer or Autry Jackson at the Missouri Arts Council, 314-340-6845. Paul & Win Grace can also fax you a copy of the application.
