Summer Arts Program, July-August 2003

Once again we're launching full tilt into summer with big plans!  We will have two artists-in-residence this summer,  both students from University College Cork.  Helen Gubbins and Dierdre Harnedy will be in Columbia for July and August teaching music and performing locally.  We're very glad to have them!

Kids day camp and Teen Workshops will be held at Unity Center of Columbia, on W. Broadway across from the Gerbes shopping center.

8-week classes start June 30.  List of classes

Kids interested in learning a bit more about Irish music, dance and culture will have a great time at our Irish Arts Day Camp. They get to choose the three topics they want to concentrate on to make the most of their experience.  Helen and Dierdre will teach music and Irish language and coordinate activities and Ellie Grace will teach Irish step dancing. At the end of the week we'll have an Irish ceilidh (kay-lee) to celebrate our accomplishments!

Irish Arts Workshops for Teens, 1 - 4:30 p.m. July 14-18

From playing in an Irish music jam session to dancing the Sliabh Luchra Polka Set to envisioning the heroic feats of Irish mythic figures Chuchullain and Finn MacCool, we've got a great week planned for teens interested in Irish Arts! Irish musicians Helen Gubbins and Dierdre Harnedy, local musician and dancer Ellie Grace, and Kirksville based literature and dance guru Christine Harker will make this an excellent week of fun experiences!
