Solas, highly acclaimed Irish-American band, will play at The Blue Note tonight.
Time update Doors open at 8 p.m., show starts ~ 830
Smoke-free show
Tickets are $12 in advance or $14 at the door
Local fiddler Tim Langen and CMCAA artist-in-residence Uilleann piper Marie McLean will open the show with a 30-minute set.
The Boston Herald has called Solas "the best Irish traditional band in the world." A far cry from being purist dance music, Solas is among the small handful of young, innovative bands that have found a "pop" niche for traditional music, sculpting their sound to have a contemporary edge without breaking faith with their roots.
Seamus Egan, anchor for the band was born in America to Irish parents who returned to Ireland when he was just three. By the time he was 14, he'd won the prestigious All-Ireland championships on four separate instruments flute, whistle, mandolin and tenor banjo. If that doesn't give you a little hint about how good this band is, I just don't know how to give you a better one.
Many, many thanks to The Blue Note and Richard King for bringing this band to Columbia. Take a friend to this concert -- they will thank you!

August 25 Ceili
Join us at Cherry Street Artisan on Sunday, August 25 at 6 p.m. for an evening of Irish arts as our Summer Arts participants demonstrate their new skills, joined by other local musicians and dancers.
We'll also have a silent auction throughout the evening, to raise money for the Summer Arts program so we can continue this successful effort with local and guest instructors teaching music, dance and language. We're seeking donations of items for the auction arts and crafts, services (i.e. a voucher for a lesson), or music-related or Celtic culture-related items. Estimated value of items may be in the range of $5 - $100.
If you would like to donate an item, please contact Kate. kakers@chivalry.com or 442-2048
