Kids Irish Dance and Tin Whistle Workshop
for ages 7 - 12
Saturday, August 24

Think your child might be the next Michael Flatley (dancer from Riverdance) or Paddy Keenan (renowned Irish piper)?  This workshop is their opportunity to get a taste of Irish music and dance -- and our chance to see if there is enough interest to hold more classes for kids.

9 - 10:30 a.m. Irish dancing
Kids will learn the basic steps -- sevens and threes -- needed for most Irish dances. They'll learn some step dancing footwork and a short ceili dance called The Fairy Reel.
What to bring -- comfortable, well-fitting shoes, preferably with smooth soles.

11 a.m. - 12:30 beginning tin whistle
The kids will learn the notes on the tin whistle so they can play the D scale, how to blow harder to get the higher octave, and their first Irish tune.
What to bring -- optional: tape recorder
You will get a whistle to keep.

Fees -- $20 for either one workshop, or $40 for both.

Both workshops will be taught by our artist-in-residence, Marie McLean, Irish musician and dancer from Ballycastle, Co. Antrim.
