Music and lyrics by Mark Geisler © 2003 Thoryan Music

Written April 15, 2003.  This is the first time I’ve really written about the events of September 11th, 2001.  It has taken me a year and a half to process many of the emotions of that horrible day.  I am deeply concerned by our country’s attitude and actions in the world since that time.  Our invasion of Iraq is what finally motivated me to write about this topic.  This song is dedicated Pam Simpson, who was simply…there.

VERSE 1
I kept the door closed – while tending my wounds
Hidden alone in the dark - not a soul was allowed inside of this room
We had the promise…of something bright
All of that was taken away when The Fire came shattering out of the sky

CHORUS 1
Down from the skies it fell and it fell as we watched it hypnotized
Down to the ground I fell and I fell - bleeding, burned and paralyzed
“God Bless America” on that day were the words the whole world heard….
Yes, God blessed America on that day - Oh, God blessed America…alright
Well, God blessed America…

VERSE 2
In the days of darkness that followed - you stood by me
Never pushing, never judging - only allowing me to be
I will never forget that kindness - for as long as I’m alive
That single little Grace of yours has helped me to survive this
Gives me hope we might survive this
Brings me faith we may survive this….

CHORUS 2
Well…“Welcome to our world”, they said “this happens to us everyday”
NO! Nothing like THIS ever happened before – not ever EVER in this way…
Now we have more fear to live with - now we have more hate
And yes, we have more love - but is it much too little too late…
For God-Blessed America… Oh, God-Blessed America…

BRIDGE
Ignorance and fear and religion – mixed with passion and with hate
They make the deadliest poison – the bitter draught from which no one wakes
Will the dark be first to succumb or will it be the light?
What will we be left with? Will the world be saved by or saved from
The Right of America…Oh, God-Blessed America…

CHORUS 3
Now, down from the skies we fall and we fall and we watch it hypnotized
Down on the ground or back to the wall – no one ever loves, they will always fight
In the darkness or the light – which one of us is blind?
Maybe history will write – in another place and time –
That God blessed America… - Oh, God blessed America…
Well, God; Bless America…
