Tired of the same old date spots? Check out these lesser known locations that make ideal date nights. Whether you’re just looking for a change of scenery or want to try your hand at a new hobby, there’s something for everyone. Shake things up and you might just discover some new loves—both with a place and a person

1)Mount Wilson Observatory

Calling all space cadets and wannabe rocket men. Did you know that some of the most important scientific discoveries in relation to our universe were made right in Pasadena atop Mount Wilson Observatory? It was here that Edwin Hubble first identified galaxies outside of the Milky Way and realized that the universe is constantly expanding. Mind blown. There’s no better place to contemplate the vast complexities of the universe and modern love then under the stars. You can top off a docent-led weekend tour with a stop at Cosmic Cafe for a snack and refreshments. You’ll find this is an excellent place to learn about the stars and your date!

2)Lindygroove

Tired of the same rotation of top 40 hits at the club? Take a blast to the past and try your hand (and feet) at swing dancing! You might just find it impossible not to have a good time when that big band starts to play. Every Thursday night Lindygroove offers beginner and intermediate classes in the grand ballroom of the historic Pasadena Masonic Temple followed by an open dance night where you can try out your new moves and watch the pros twist, swing and lindyhop their way across the floor. Whether you’re an experienced dancer or have two left feet, this is a sure fire way to infuse some energetic life into your dating routine. So grab a partner, swing ’em round and have some fun!

3)Boston Court Performing Arts Center

Impress your date with an evening of live theatre. (That’s with an ‘re’ because you’re sophisticated and stuff.) The Boston Court Performing Arts Center is less well known than the Pasadena Playhouse and is dedicated to presenting adventurous, innovative, daring and diverse works in an intimate setting. Sounds romantic, yes? Brush off that theater minor you thought would never amount to anything and experience something vital and timely. You’re sure to have something to talk about over drinks after the curtain falls.

4)The Luggage Room

Maybe you don’t want to adventure too far from the dinner and drinks date nights that have grown so comforting and familiar. That’s totally fine, perhaps you’re working up to the more adventurous stuff. In the meantime, you can still branch out and venture to new, cool, atmospheric watering holes and The Luggage Room ticks all those boxes. Though ‘new’ might be misleading as this place has actually been around since 1934 when it was just part of Del Mar train station. This charming pizzeria, which was voted best local pizza by Pasadena Weekly in 2016, still functions as a stop on the metro gold line. So you can split that bottle of wine and not have to worry about a DD. Convenient, delicious, historic and a great place for a date.

5)Armory Center for the Arts

Show off your creative side with a date night at the Armory Center for the Arts. Pasadena has a lot of museums and galleries, but the Armory is often overlooked for the more prestigious Norton Simon or Huntington Galleries. Here you can take in the latest exhibitions, watch a live performance or try your hand at your own art with an art class. Creating something together is a great way to bond and let your date see a side of you they might not normally see. Either way, you and your date can engage with art in a way that’s both enlightening and fun!
